PA Preferred® Last Chance Angus is a first generation, family owned black angus cattle farm in New Tripoli, Lehigh County. Owners Matthew and Jennifer Henderson offer high quality, ethically raised beef products, raising their cattle on pasture from birth. Their customers enjoy tasty retail cuts of freezer beef as well as hay, straw and other farm fresh products.

As members of PA Preferred, the Hendersons appreciate what the program offers. “We like that PA Preferred supports Pennsylvania farmers and their products,” they say. “The banners and yard signs are great. We have them hung in our star and we put out the yard signs to catch customers’ eyes when we are open.”

Patrons are welcome to shop Last Chance Angus products at the farm on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at Wanamakers General Store in nearby Berks County. There’s a lot to choose from, including cuts like tenderloin, boneless NY strip, ribeye, Delmonico and Tomahawk as well as roasts, beef cubes and brisket. You’ll also find ground beef, hamburger patties, beef sausages, sticks and kielbasa and other parts like beef tongue, liver and marrow bones.

The Hendersons say, “Tomahawk steaks are one of our most popular products. Everyone likes to see the marbling and enjoy the experience of cooking and eating them.” This thick-cut, bone-in ribeye is a stand out on the plate, resembling an axe with a rich, tender portion of meat that’s delicious with simple seasoning and a quick sear.

All of the beef is bred, born and raised on the farm without hormones and eating grain and grass. “We have several generations of commercial black angus cows and a registered black angus bull,” the Hendersons say. “We have also started a small herd of Aberdeen Angus to offer smaller portions of beef to our customers.”

Farming cattle through the entire lifecycle brings unique challenges and deep satisfaction for the Hendersons. “Having the cow and calf operation is demanding,” they say. “However, having the calves born on our farm is rewarding. We love being able to provide healthy beef to our customers and knowing exactly where it comes from.”
