Why You Should Support the “Good and Cheap” Cookbook

Imagine trying to cook for your family on just $4 a day. While it may seem impossible, this is the reality for more than 46 million Americans who rely on food stamp programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Author Leanne Brown, in her online cookbook Good and Cheap, set out to prove that eating on a budget doesn’t have to come at the expense of taste or nutrition.

The online version of the cookbook, which Brown began as her master’s degree project at New York University, proved to be so wildly successful that Brown decided to bring a print version to market. With the help of a Kickstarter campaign that raised close to $150,000 (Kickstarter’s #1 cookbook ever), printed versions of Good and Cheap are now available, and Brown is donating and selling her book at a massive discount to organizations that support low-income families on SNAP.

The Kickstarter may have ended, but you can still support the Good and Cheap movement by ordering your copy of the cookbook online for $20. For $25, Brown will donate one additional copy to someone who needs it; for $29, 2 copies will be donated; for $100, 10 copies will be donated!
