Avast ye landlubbers. Maggie Hook’s, the former Generations, has redesigned their restaurant to a seafood “Fish & Grille.”
My husband and I launched our experience on a Saturday night to find a friendly, attentive server who welcomed us and described the Captain’s specials.
The redesigned restaurant features a nautical theme with murals of underwater scenes throughout and stylish décor.
Maggie Hook’s Fish & Grille is named for the favorite mistress of notorious pirate Blackbeard. Legend has it he and his crew frequented the shores of Marcus Hook during their adventures. The restaurant’s website has much more on the intriguing local legend.
I began my meal with a visit to the elaborate salad bar. I don’t think there’s another restaurant in Media that features a salad bar, and it truly was the highlight of my meal. From fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and chickpeas to seafood salad and all the dressings you could ask for, it was chock-full of options. You can even have bottomless soup and salad for just $9.95. And at lunch time, they offer it for a bargain $6.95. Quite a deal!
We also sampled the coconut shrimp for an appetizer; at $6.95 they are worth raving about. As a seafood guru, I had to sample one of my go-to favorites: shrimp scampi. It was a nice blend of white wine, butter and fresh garlic over linguine for $17.95. My husband went for the broiled seafood combo, which included fried flounder, shrimp, scallops, crab cake and clam strips for $21.95. He was pleased with his choice and polished it all off.
A few other notables on the dinner menu include blackened mahi-mahi for $16.95, flounder Francaise for $14.75, Blackbeard’s burger just shy of 11 bucks, and the 14-ounce Cowboy steak: a chargrilled, blackened rib-eye with jumbo onion rings for $22.95.
We haven’t tried it out yet, but the word on the street is the weekend brunch is really something. Saturdays and Sundays, Maggie’s offers a full brunch from 10 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Feast on Maggie’s three-egg omelets served with toast and hash browns or the buttermilk pancakes topped with chocolate chips, blueberries, strawberries or bananas for $6.95.
