American Premiere of New Opera Comes To The Media Theatre, Taking Stage May 30–June 1

Carlo Pedini’s Jago is making its United States premiere in Media, PA! The ground-breaking operatic event will take place May 30, May 31 and June 1 at The Media Theatre.

The opera will be performed by the International Opera Theatre (IOT), a nonprofit organization based in both Philadelphia and Italy. IOT is dedicated to spontaneity-driven art, specifically in opera and musical theater, creating contemporary operas linking the Italian lyric tradition with the innovative modern American spirit. During its 10-year activity, IOT has commissioned 10 original operas and other multicultural works and has brought together artists from more than 36 different countries. IOT has collaborated with The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, The Museum of Modern Art in New York and more.

Inspired by characters in Shakespeare’s Othello and in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, Jago is based on an original story by Karen Saillant. The opera will star Galen Scott Bower, Thomas DeHorney, Paolo Antognetti and Sharon Zhai. Gianmaria Griglio will conduct the orchestra for the performances.
