Kennett Square’s annual Mushroom Festival is right around the corner, which means the Amateur Mushroom Cook-off is too! The competition challenges home cooks to create an appetizer featuring commercially grown Kennett Square mushrooms. This includes button, crimini, portabella, oyster, maitake and shiitake mushrooms. Out of all the appetizers submitted, six finalists will be chosen. Those finalists will prepare their creation on September 12 in the Mushroom Festival’s Special Events Tent. First, second and third place winners will be awarded plaques. Additionally, the first place winner will receive $500 and publicity of his or her recipe.
