Closing Update from Liz Marden Gourmet Cakes and Desserts

Over the weekend, the Town Dish team received an update on Liz Marden – straight from the baker herself. It was just Monday, July 16th, when the pastry chef/owner of Liz Marden Gourmet Cakes and Desserts made the announcement on Facebook that she had decided to close her Kennett Square bake shop.

Below, she writes about the reasons for her closing and clears up the speculations that she had shut her doors due to bad health.

Dear Friends,

I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of concern and support from everyone in the Kennett community. Your emails and Facebook posts during this difficult week have meant more than l can ever express.

First, I am in good health and my family ís fine.

Second, l closed my business due to an unresolvable situation related to my location, the nature of which forced me to leave when I did and in the manner that l did. Now that the move is complete, I am working to finish closing my business by satisfying my financial obligations and personally contacting brides and specialty cake order customers to refund their deposits.

Next, going to take a little time to catch my breath and consider future possibilities. But l do know one thing for certain. I have fallen in love with Kennett Square and l’m here to stay.

Warmly and with my deepest gratitude,

Liz Marden
