Even if you’re a regular around Paoli, it’s easy to breeze past Redhound Grille, the newest restaurant to open at 128 Paoli Pike.
Formerly The Big Easy, where we’d get our fix of Cajun and alligator specialties, this restaurant casual neighborhood eatery has been given a fresh new look. Look beyond the non-descript building – it houses a bright and relaxed atmosphere for lunch and dinner with friends, family and colleagues.
Longtime friends and chefs Shane Magee and Owen Marshall partnered to make this place happen, having already worked side-by-side the past eight years. Magee, a volunteer firefighter, lends his Irish flair to the menu through the nightly specials as well as the Irish Brunch served every Sunday (we can’t wait to try that).
Having just opened in the past month, we headed over this past week for a first peek of the menu. Get ready for classic American salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees, all at very reasonable prices.
We kept it on the light side for dinner, noshing on a Spinach Salad with roasted butternut squash, dried cranberries, Asiago cheese and grilled chicken; as well as a pita sandwich stuffed with grilled seasonal vegetables, hummus, goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. There is an array of chef’s specials each day – I tried the salad with goat cheese, strawberries, almonds and grilled shrimp, tossed with a citrus vinaigrette.
For you heartier eaters, there are plenty of burgers (with all the toppings you could desire) and classic steak, chicken and fish dishes. What else looked good? Next time we’ll start with the Mussels steamed in pale ale with smoked Gouda, sun-dried tomatoes and house-cured bacon. And the Moroccan Grilled Vegetables, served with chick peas and goat cheese over couscous.
The bar scene is definitely up and running at Redhound Grille. It’s a good thing to have another affordable American restaurant that you can pop by without making reservations in advance. Next time I’m at a loss at what to make for dinner or need a place for friends to gather for a quick drink, you’ll know where I’ll be heading…
