Manayunk Bridge Reopens After 30 Years—Now a Pedestrian & Bike Trail Across the Schuylkill River

Calling all cyclists, runners and walkers: if you’ve been looking for a new route to spice up your fitness routine, you are in luck!

The Manayunk Bridge, which has been closed and in a state of disuse for 30 years, has reopened. The bridge, which connects Lower Merion Township and Main Street in Manayunk, is a welcome addition to the Circuit Trails, a network offering 750 miles of trails in the Greater Philadelphia Region. The trails are widely used, with patrons commuting to and from work or just enjoying an afternoon jog.

The reopening of the bridge, which is for pedestrians and bikes only, allows for a much easier path to cross the Schuylkill River. Incorporating an existing stretch of closed elevated railroad track, Manayunk Bridge joins the expanding “rails-to-trails” effort around Philadelphia.

It is important to note that Manayunk Bridge is not open 24 hours a day. From November 1–March 31, visitors can use the trail from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Starting April 1, bridge hours start at 8 a.m. and go to 9 p.m. until October 31.
