Enjoy First Friday in Downtown West Chester this week on August 5, beginning at 5 pm!
Area-wide stores will be open late offering retail specials and refreshments. Participating shops and their specials include the following:
- Visual Expansion Gallery (126 N High St, 610-436-8697) will be hosting textile artist Marion Mackey from 5-9pm. Each individual thread painting depicts the delicate balance of nature and her skilled craftsmanship. Wine, chocolate, and refreshments will be served.
- The 5 Senses (133 W Market St., 610-719-0170) celebrates summer with a “Seriously HOT 20% to 60% Off Summer Sale” through August 18th, and Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri Night on First Friday.
- Chester County Historical Society (225 N High St., 610-692-4800) is open free to the public on the First Friday of each month, 10 am-5 pm. Discover the museum and exhibits, kids’ activities and library!
Plus, local stores are teaming up with area-wide artists for The Hickman fundraiser. Those strolling through the streets of downtown West Chester through October 12 will find one-of-a-kind, 4-drawer end tables decorated by renowned Brandywine Valley artists in store windows. It’s part of the the Hickman’s 8th annual Art of Caring event on Friday, October 14, 2011, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The unique creations will be auctioned then and proceeds will benefit the expansion of The Hickman, providing additional affordable housing for seniors. The Hickman is located at 400 North Walnut Street, West Chester. The participating downtown businesses include Jane Chalfant, Ruby Slippers, Sunset Hill, Penwick Design, Taste of Olive, Kaly’s, Gawthrop Greenwood, Fulton Bank and Visual Expansion.
The artists taking part in this year’s show are Laura Barton, Evalyn Eckman, John Hannafin, Mitch Harper, Linda Lynch, Bradbury Mattes, Sherry McVickar, Super, Amory Stedman, Nancy Thompson, Dane Tilghman and Brett Walker.
