West Chester has soul and rhythm and it can be found at 154 W. Gay Street. Mo’s Grill (aka Mo’s Rhythm Kitchen) offers a melting pot of a menu at reasonable prices and generous portions of generous fare. Tucked away at the end of Gay Street, this little hole in the wall packs great foods with a big taste.
You can’t go a visit without their tender rack of ribs or fried chicken, accompanied by their creamy mac and cheese, corn bread, or collard greens. In case you are looking for island-inspired dishes, be sure to try their Jamaican Patty (flaky pocket w/ spicy beef), fried plantains or Caribbean Jerk chicken.
Their eclectic menu also includes burgers, Nathan’s hot dogs, salads, soups, brisket that is smoked on-site and daily specials which change with the chef’s mood and hankerings for the day. Personal pan pizzas have recently made it to their nighttime menu and come in plain, pepperoni, mushroom, BBQ chicken and cheesesteak. Regardless of the type of cuisine, you will be hooked after one bite.
“His BBQ is very good and very fresh (something often ignored by reviewers of BBQ places, but he also has a couple other stand-out dishes. His mac and cheese is awesome and he has an amazing recipe of pineapple upside down cake (I have never been a big fan of the thing until I tried his),” said Stephen Wahrhaftig. “As WC continues to move upscale as a food town, I think we may sometimes overlook the small walk-in shops like Mo’s. These tiny cafes and coffee shops are what keep WC unique in the area, I believe. They are run on a handful of recipes and owner enthusiasm – rare ingredients.”
Business partners Thad Hoskins and Kevin Hogue were sitting around one night and had a craving for something other than pizza. They decided West Chester needed a place to get to great ribs and fried chicken.
You won’t find their foods coming out of box or containing preservatives or processed foods. Kevin is very adamant about cooking from scratch and his philosophy is using simple ingredients and the less you add to food, the better it tastes.
In addition to enjoying their outdoor seating this summer, look out for all-you-can-eat crab and rib nights. Their hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 3 a.m. Delivery is available all day with a wide delivery radius and Mo’s Grill can cater your next party.
Whether you are looking for Soul food, Caribbean cuisine or American classics, for lunch or a late night snack, Mo’s Grill will keep your bellies happy and coming back for more.
