If the term Slow Food is new to you check out this link: Slow Food Nation before you read on. As quoted from their website, “Slow Food USA envisions a future food system that is based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability, and social justice – in essence, a food system that is good, clean and fair.” Basically… the anti-fast food. Mmmm… that tastes good!
Slow Food Picinic, June 7, 2007
Dear Slow Food Members and friends of Slow Food,
Please join us for a picnic at Charlestown Cooperative Farm and a visit to the Phoenixville Farmers Market on Saturday, June 16, 10:00-2:00.
Event Details:
Participants will meet at the Phoenixville Farmer’s Market at 10 o clock. The Market features, among other products, naturally leavened breads from Sweetwater Baking Company, whole grain breads from Great Harvest Bread Company, Cheese from Birchrun Hills Farm, organic cookies from Marci’s Morsels, seasonal produce, kim chee, sauerkraut, and lots of meats including bison, and many types of sausage.
After our visit to the farmers market, we will head to Charlestown Farm for a brief tour and lunch. For the picnic, bring your favorite dishes and drinks along—a grill is available on the farm and, as mentioned above, we will get to taste a salad made from greens grown on the farm.
Directions:
Directions from the Market to the farm: Turn RIGHT onto Bridge street (away from the center of town). Cross Route 23 and continue on W. Bridge Street, Bridge Street becomes Charlestown Road. Charlestown Farm is at 2565 Charlestown Road, approximately 2.5 from the Phoenixville Farmers’ Market. There will be balloons on the mailbox.
Mmmm… Coffee:
After lunch, a visit to the local coffee roaster Kimberton Coffee Roasting Co is planned. Kimberton is very close to the farm.
It’s FREE!
The event is free but we need to know approximately how many people will be joining us for the Farm Picnic. Please send me an e-mail ([email protected]) with the number of participants so that I can put you on the picnic list.
