Wooo-hoooing for The West Chester Grower’s Market

I have been anxiously counting down the days until one of my most favorite activities in West Chester. And as of today that magic number is SEVEN. That’s right, only seven more days until the West Chester Grower’s Market opens. Next Saturday, May 5th from 9:00am to 1:00pm the parking lot at North Church and West Chestnut Streets downtown comes alive with local vendors selling fresh produce, cheeses, canned goods, flowers, meats, natural soaps and baked goods.

This market makes me a very happy girl and is easily the best part of my week. What an amazing way to start off my weekend by supporting local farmers and indulging in delicious seasonal goods. According to my handy-dandy “Fresh Produce Availability Chart” I will be keeping my eyes peeled (no pun intended) for the following fruits and veggies:

– Artichokes
– Asparagus
– Beans
– Cabbage
– Cauliflower
– Citrus
– Cucumbers
– Greens
– Lettuces
– Mushrooms
– Okra
– Onions
– Rhubarb
– Spinach

Mother Nature has been a bit tricky lately so it will be a pleasant surprise to see what shows up on in the tents on Saturday. No matter what the selection is I’m sure to find many fantastic fillings for spring omelets, fixin’s for some tasty outdoor grilling and ingredients for sensational salads. I think my heart may just burst thinking about it.
