The PA Preferred designation helps promote the market as a destination for farm fresh produce and agricultural products. Market Chairman David Zimmer says, “We like being associated with a program that promotes locally grown fruits and vegetables.”

Monroeville Lions Farmer’s Market coincides with the area’s growing and harvest seasons, opening the Saturday before Mother’s Day through the Saturday before Thanksgiving every year. You’ll find this market, with 25+ vendors, in the Monroeville Mall parking lot between Dick’s Sporting Goods and Best Buy. This centralized location provides visibility for sellers and ample parking for consumers.

The market accepts cash, credit cards, and EBT cards and shoppers can choose from a range of products and produce to fill their refrigerators and cabinet shelves. “We are a farmers market that sells a wide variety of fresh, locally grown produce and meat as well as locally prepared foods,” Zimmer tells us. “We sell fresh vegetables, corn, mushrooms, fruit, beef, pork and lamb, plus fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving. We also sell honey, maple syrup, cheese, fresh flowers, coffee, juice, barbecue sauce, salsa, breads, pies, popcorn, jams and jellies, gyros, baked goods, cupcakes, wine, distilled spirits, pierogies, olive oil and ice cream.”

Everyone has their favorites, but fresh vegetables are the top sellers. Harvest Valley Farms joins McElhinney Farm, Logan Family Farms and others in offering an abundance of leafy greens, strawberries, carrots, squash, sweet onion, stone fruit, sweet corn, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers and so much more. You can find recipes for cooking up the bounty throughout our PA Preferred series.

The market has a deep commitment to serving the people in the greater Pittsburgh area. Zimmer says, “We provide a service to our community by providing a place to buy fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruit from small, independent farmers. Also, we are a 501(c)(3) charity and the proceeds from running the market support many local causes including food banks, local scholarships, and support for the blind and visually impaired.”
