Sample Philadelphia’s New Favorite Cocktail
Philadelphia—Philadelphia magazine announces the Fourth Annual Cocktail Competition, to be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The event will be held at North Bowl, located at 909 North 2nd Street in Northern Liberties. The evening includes unlimited tastings of signature cocktails from premium liquor brands, hors d’oeuvres and bowling. Proceeds from the event benefit Helpusadopt.org, a financial assistance grant program that provides qualified couples and individuals with grants towards their adoption expenses.Tickets to the Cocktail Competition are $50 and available for purchase at www.phillymag.com or 800.595.4TIX.
Thirteen premium spirits brands will be entering their specialty cocktail in a competition to determine Philadelphia’s favorite cocktail. The featured brands are: Navan, Mount Gay Rum Eclipse Silver, Cachaca 51, Rain Organics Vodka, Hendricks Gin, Sailor Jerry, Milagro, Smirnoff White Grape, Parrot Bay Key Lime Breeze, and Three Olives Root Beer Vodka.
The judging will be based on criteria devised by Mixology Wine Institute. Judges will be selecting the winner based on ten points including the glassware used, color of the drink, name, creativity, aroma and garnish, as well as the cocktail’s overall aesthetic, taste, quality and flavor. The winning cocktail will be featured in the November issue of Philadelphia magazine and will be announced at the event.
The competing cocktails will be offered at the following restaurants throughout the region during the month of October: 90 Main, Aspen Restaurant, Blue Dog Pub, Bourbon Blue, Cafe Spice, Chima Brazilian Steakhouse, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, City Tavern, Davio’s, Derek’s, Doylestown Country Club, Earl’s Prime, El Vez, Farmacia, G, GiGi, Horizons, Keswick Theater, Lacroix, Logan Inn, Lowes Hotel, Luxe Lounge, Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant, ManayunkTavern, Mantra Asian Pub, Marathon Grill, Mexican Post, Mission Grill, Puck, Reuben’s Marc, Rum Bar, Sadiki’s, Spamps, Susanna Foo, Swanky Bubbles, Tequilas, The Cactus Grill, The Oceanaire, The Reef, Time, Valanni, Warmdaddy’s, World Cafe Live, Yakitori Boy.
