McKenzie Brew House Announces its First-Ever Beer Pairing Dinner and Belgian Homebrew Competition

GLEN MILLS, Pa. – (December 22, 2009) – Whether you’re a beer lover or beer brewer, there is something at McKenzie Brew House for you this winter. McKenzie’s Chadds Ford location has announced its first-ever Beer Pairing Dinner, to be held on Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m. in the recently opened Metro, a stylish, upscale lounge. Guests will receive inside tips about food and brew pairings from Don Russell, celebrated local beer expert and Philadelphia Daily News “Joe Sixpack” columnist, as well as McKenzie brewers Ryan Michaels and Gerard Olson. Additionally, the award-winning restaurant and brewery has announced a Belgian Homebrew Competition, in which local homebrewers are invited to submit a batch of their favorite Belgian-inspired beer.

Beer Pairing Dinner: During the January 21 Beer Pairing Dinner, a multi-course dinner will be served featuring a selection of McKenzie’s culinary favorites. Russell, along with Michaels and Olson, will mingle with guests and discuss how the featured dishes and their ingredients complement the brewery’s Belgian and French-style ales.

“Beer is more complex than most people realize and this dinner exposes guests to its rich, intricate flavor compounds,” said Ryan Michaels, head brewer at McKenzie Brew House. “Recently, we’ve been developing beers that are meant for aging. The dinner will feature some of these specialty aged beers as well as the traditional farmhouse ales.”

The tasting dinner is priced at $49 per person, excluding tax and gratuity.

Belgian Homebrew Competition: McKenzie Brew House is also hosting its first annual Belgian Homebrew Competition to discover local, talented homebrewers. Belgian-style brews, accompanied with an entry form, must be submitted by February 15, 2009 to McKenzie Chadds Ford. A panel of judges will test each brew submission based on the subjective flavor criteria. The grand prize winner will get to brew their winning recipe with brewers Michaels and Olson and the beer will be featured on tap during March.
