On Saturday, July 31, Black Walnut Winery will celebrate their one year anniversary!
The Chester County-based winery, owned and operated by Lance and Valerie Castle and Karen and Jack Kuhns, have concocted 17 varieties of traditional wines in a year’s time, with two of the blends already achieving medal honors.
At the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show, Black Walnut Winery was praised for their Chardonnay 2007 and at the 2010 Pennsylvania Wine Competition, their Merlot 2007 received bronze medal status. Soon, by early August, the winery will open a second location as a wine shop/tasting room on Bridge Street in Phoenixville.
But, as always, celebrating special occasions in style is a strong point for the Castles and the Kuhns. For the celebratory day, they will slice the tasting fee at their headquarters in half, costing visitors only $3 to tackle their adored blends.
Great prizes will additionally be raffled off all afternoon, but to win, you must be present when winners are drawn. Food (light fare) available for purchase or bring guests are invited to bring their own food.
A free afternoon lawn concert will be part of the joyous festivities featuring Echo from 1 to 5 p.m. It’s suggested you bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
Also, throughout the afternoon, until 5 p.m., Amazing Acres Goat Dairy of Elverson will be on site with their artisan goat cheese samples, as well as supplying various creamy blends for purchase.
Wine fans are invited to speed into the evening with another outdoor concert, too, premiering the Jerry Watkins Band, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the nighttime performance are $12 per person (Adults Only) includes a sampling of 4 wines. Weather permitting, the Saturday night concert will be held outdoors. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors and seating will be restricted to the 50 advance ticket holders.
