Originally owned by Alfred L. Tubbs, Chateau Montelena began producing wine in California in 1886. In 1976, Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world when the who’s who of the French wine and food establishment gathered for a grand tasting in Paris. Four white Burgundies were tasted against six California Chardonnays. When the scores were tallied, the French judges were convinced that the top-ranking white wine was one of their own. In fact, it was Chateau Montelena’s 1973 Chardonnay, rated above all other wines.

The results proved that Chateau Montelena could produce some of the world’s finest wines and that California’s wine industry had come of age. Our chef has composed a delectable four-course menu to complement the Chateau Montelena offerings:

Peeky Toe Crab
fennel, yuzu, spring onions and mint
2007 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay
Duck Leg Confit
lightly smoked eggplant and black currants
2006 The Montelena Estate Zinfandel
Grass Fed Beef
aged gouda risotta and wild ramps
2002, 2003, 2004 The Montelena Estate Cabernet (vertical tasting)
Milk Chocolate Crème Brûlée
vanilla mascarpone cheese and clementine
2007 Far Niente Dolce
