Just Opened: Antigua Guatemala

We are pleased to announce that as of the last few weeks, Antigua Guatemala Spanish Restaurant opened its doors. Cozy on Main Street (nearby by the Civic Center, and directly across from Phoenixville Federal Bank & Trust), the local eatery—praising influences of Maya cuisine—has already established itself in the downtown food scene as it puts forth a comforting interior, a friendly wait staff and highly notable entrees.

Stay tuned, for we will—in the next week—post a full-blown recap of our experience enjoying their ethnic eats.

However, here’s a couple must-order closing tips to keep you on your toes:

We have heard from numerous diners that their Carne Asada Estila Antigua is out-of-this-world. Additionally as notable is the Pollo a la Parilla (fire-roasted chicken marinated in Antiguan spices) served with a garden salad and Spanish rice.

Without a doubt, the Churrasco (chargrilled steak, Guatemalan-style) is a crowd-pleaser, hand-rubbed with Central American seasonings, drizzled with Guatemalan salsa, sauteed scallions, and guacamole.

And of course, for the locals with the families in tow, there is a kid’s menu, which serves quesadillas for $3.50, chicken fingers with french fries for $4.50 and grilled cheese sandwiches with fries for $3.50. Lunch specials, served 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., are highly recommended, too, and always served with fresh, house-made tortillas.

And, if as if we would ever forget to include a mention of the sweets, you can now—in just a few hops—devour sweet fried plantain bananas covered in fresh dairy creme and sprinkled with sugar; fresh fruit smoothies and Horchata (a refreshing Central American drink made from rice, evaporated milk, sugar and cinnamon) and Guatemalan coffee.
