Black Walnut Winery—the Sadsburyville-based winemakers who are notorious for crafting some of the area’s finest PA wine—announce a handful of new releases to add to their already-established lineup of 18 different wines. The releases are as follows:
Mischief 2008
This is a blend of their Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Both of these wines went through a full malolactic fermentation, which creates a very soft, rounded feel in your mouth. This wine gives you a little taste of the bright Pinot Gris, but is balanced by the buttery and oak flavors from the Chardonnay.
Pinot Gris (off-dry) 2008
This is a slightly softer and sweeter Pinot Gris than their dry Gris. This wine has a medium-full body texture and fruit overtones with a hint of oak. The bigger body and color in this wine were developed with
a more enhanced juice to skin maceration at the beginning of fermentation. This is all complimented by a small amount (approx. 1/2%) of residual sugar, which softens the acidity of this normally crisp wine.
Vidal Blanc 2008
Their 2008 Vidal Blanc is a sweet wine with approximately 2.5% to 3% residual sugar. The traditional fruity and floral characteristics show on the nose. This wine shows more acidity than our 2009, and highlights grapefruit and tangerine flavors.
Vidal Blanc 2009
Their 2009 Vidal Blanc is their sweetest wine, with approximately 4% residual sugar. The aroma of this Vidal Blanc is fruity with some floral characteristics. This wine has distinct flavors of grapefruit, soft melon and apricot.
For those of you anxiously awaiting the release of their More Than Merlot (a Merlot port) and their 2008 Tryst (50/50 Pinot Noir/Merlot blend), the winemakers anticipate being able to release these wines in late January/early February.
