Six Ways to Show Your Mom You Love Her

Six Things to Do for Mother’s Day

If you’re anything like me, you’ve waited until the possible last minute (i.e. Sunday morning around 10:00 a.m.) to figure out something to do for Mother’s Day. Sure, you could stop and buy a cheap, cliché drug store card and maybe a couple roses, but what fun is that?

This year, treat your mom to something really special for Mother’s Day. Here are six amazing ways to show the woman who gave birth to you that you love her:

Longwood Gardens – It’s the no fail, quintessential Mother’s Day experience. Pack your Zytec and enjoy gorgeous May blooms at these picturesque grounds filled with 11,000 different types of plants. Afterwards, treat Mom to a special Mother’s Day brunch ($57 per person), featuring an array of dishes including the Terrace Restaurant’s award winning mushroom soup. In addition, enjoy fine music from special guest guitarist Daniel Graper. For more information, visit http://www.longwoodgardens.org/MothersDayWeekend.html.

Chaddsford Winery Rose Tasting – I’m pretty sure this one is on my mom’s list. All mothers will receive a complimentary wine tasting, just in time for the release of Chaddsford Winery’s signature Rose, a Syrah blend made in a very limited amount. Mom can also enjoy shopping at the gift shop, stocked with everything from wine accessories to Mother’s Day gift baskets. West Chester BBQ Choo Choo – Here’s a different idea, but one that’s sure to make your mother smile. Take a scenic train ride from West Chester to Glen Mills and enjoy a savory all-you-can-eat barbeque from the Pig Out BBQ Pit. Enjoy ribs, pork, chicken and all the fixin’s at a picnic grove next to the historic train station. Just be sure to use your napkin, kids! Train leaves at 6:00 p.m. and returns at 8:00 p.m.; tickets are only $25. For more information, visit http://www.pigoutbbqpit.com/.

Gilmore’s Restaurant – If your mother is a Francophile, she’ll enjoy a fine dinner at one of West Chester’s premiere restaurants. Make a reservation at one of their four seating times and enjoy a five course meal with your choice of appetizer, entrée and dessert ($55 per person). Cooking Class at Dilworthtown Inn – Sure, your mom’s spaghetti sauce is the best you’ve ever tasted, but that doesn’t mean she can’t still learn a few tricks. Make her day by presenting her with tickets to one of the awesome cooking classes at the Innkeeper’s Kitchen, and make sure to accompany her. There are seven classes offered in the month of May, from an inside look at Philadelphia’s Fork restaurant to a showdown between Austrian and German wine. Classes run $65-75 per person. La Difference Salon and Day Spa – Sometimes, Mom just wants to relax. Take her to La Difference, one of the area’s top spas located just outside the borough of West Chester. Make her visit to the spa extra sweet with a “blueberry smoothie facial” for $145. Trust us, she’s worth it.
