Delightfully Stirred & Shaken: The Fenix Martini Bar

On a recent weekend evening at The Fenix, the appropriately-named Bridge Street bar flanking a nestled narrow room of exposed brick and sophisticated sofas, we took in the ultra-chic ambiance that attracts many casual late night sippers.

With a scene attractive enough for anyone to jumpstart a love affair with the area’s hippest lounge—one that beams with a lineup of well-done cocktails, ambient DJ music, upscale sharable snacks and an intimate setting, The Fenix succeeds in providing Phoenixville with a classy, yet casual environment for your next night out.

Of course, when popping by downtown’s pleasure-some spot, we found it necessary to tackle the monstrous martinis that are found lovable within these dimly lit walls. With top-notch bartenders like the area’s Amy Hahn shaking and stirring premium spirits in blends packed with fresh juices, wines and sodas, you may have to reserve an entire evening to experience this rave-worthy roundup.

While sipping on options like the cucumber-plopped Hummingbird, concocted of Hendrick’s Gin, Thatcher’s Cucumber Liqueur, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur and lemon; the vibrant Flamingo, splashed with Stoli Razberi, Pomegranate Liqueur, and quirky-sliced pineapple; and the Ugly Duckling, a fun blend of Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka, iced tea and a sour mix; we couldn’t help but also nosh on their cocktail cuisine, made jointly by the staff of Molly Maguire’s (the next-door neighbors share the same owners and managing partners).

Whether you prefer enjoying the comfy sofa space, as found on the right hand side of the lounge, or a private plush chaired tables, found on the left, The Fenix is the perfect place to snack on health-conscious, gourmet finger foods besides sipping various beverages. Although we were told the lobster nachos were the most popular off the tapas menu, loaded with killer chunks from Maine, we instead opted for the Black and Tan Hummus with offers two hefty piles of black bean and roasted red pepper blends aside baguettes and fresh veggies.

The Brie du Jour is also a crowd-pleaser, with our visit’s special being a puff pastry-encased creamy cheese plopped with a delightful strawberry Cabernet accompaniment. The Fenix is anticipating adding daily sushi specials to their menu, too, including items like the pickled carrot roll.

This lounge is also a great stop for a pick-me-up between bar hops, especially because Pastry Chef Amanda Boutcher crafts their sweet treats that are sure to send you in a delicious and instant sugar coma. Delectable desserts like the Peanut Butter Kandy Kake Torte and the Choc-Hazelnut Waffle Cone Truffles will have us forever screaming for more, and the slice of Bailey’s Cheesecake was incredibly memorable, bite-after-bite.

But, as we were full to the brims on all of the Fenix’s excelled mouthfuls, we can’t forget to mention that although the martinis are their show-stoppers, this the bar also provides a roundup ideal for all tastes, including craft beer (they had my favorite, Allagash White, on tap during our visit), loads of spirits, various cocktails, and red, white and even, gluten-free wines, and more.

The Fenix is located at 193 Bridge Street and is open Thursday through Saturday at 5 p.m. For more information, visit them on the web at thefenixbar.com or call (610) 933-9550.
