Taste for Fire

Instead of packing a lunch or making dinner on Wednesday, May 26th, make reservations at one of our participating restaurants along the Main Line and a portion of your food tab will benefit the volunteer firefighters that serve our local area. “Taste for Fire” is sponsored by the Main Line Chamber Foundation (MLCF), a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Main Line region through the promotion of education and volunteerism.

“The funds collected will directly benefit volunteer firefighters and volunteer emergency medical services personnel who selflessly donate their time—and in some cases, put their lives on the line,” remarked Bill Grim, MLC Foundation President. Awards of up to $1,000 per volunteer firefighter are awarded by the Foundation to assist with post-secondary undergraduate tuition.

Since 2001, the Main Line Chamber Foundation has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to area students. “In 2006, our focus expanded to included volunteer firefighters and the fire companies who make the Main Line a better and safer place to live and work because of their selfless commitment to the community,” added Grim. “These are not paid employees, though their volunteer service saves taxpayers millions of dollars.”

The recruitment and retention of volunteers is a top priority for area fire companies, and the MLCF Scholarship Program offers tangible appreciation for volunteer firefighters that encourages their continued service.

Plan a family dinner out, a working lunch or an after-work gathering of friends on May 26th at one of the participating “Taste for Fire” restaurants, and help support the hometown heroes of the Main Line.
