Area wineries are teaming up this Saturday, August 14 in hopes to make wine history. Will you raise your glass?
As you may already know, Black Walnut Winery will be participating in the Great Pennsylvania Wine Toast this weekend. The event is a celebration of the Pennsylvania wine industry and an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest wine tasting ever conducted.
The toast will take place at precisely 4:15 p.m. (they ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to be counted for official Guinness purposes), but the festivities at Black Walnut Winery will kick off at noon with a free lawn concert featuring Dan Frantz, as well as free PA sweets and treats for their guests.
This record-breaking toast will be delivered via live web video by lifelong Pennsylvanian, wine lover and racing legend Mario Andretti.
The local winery notes that they will be donating a portion of the tasting fees and bottle sales collected on August 14 to The Fund to Benefit Children & Youth. This is an organization whose mission is “to provide abused, neglected and at-risk children with the items and services they cannot receive from traditional sources.”

And, what’s even better is that you may flood you glass with some of Black Walnut Winery’s most recent releases, which includes the 2006 Chambourcin, a blend offering herbaceous and fruit aromas combined with excellent structure, a result of the thick skin, high tannins and good acidity associated with these grapes, and the 2008 Iridescence (off-dry), which is a blush wine is a marriage of the French hybrid grape, Vidal Blanc, with standard vinifera grapes, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.
