The Great Pennsylvania Wine Toast

On Saturday, August 14 at 4 p.m., Chaddsford Winery will join more than 60 wineries from across the state in The Great Pennsylvania Wine Toast, an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest wine tasting ever conducted.  Guests are invited to the winery for some pre-toast festivities to enjoy tours of Chaddford’s winemaking & barrel-aging cellars, wine tastings or picnicking on the outdoor patio and grounds to the sounds of live music which will be begin at 2 p.m.

We’ve always been proud to produce fine wines here in Pennsylvania, and this event is a wonderful way to acknowledge our state’s thriving wine culture,” says winery proprietor Lee Miller.  “We look forward to having our friends join us at the winery for this historic event – we have lots of activity planned for a fun afternoon.”

The event will begin with a simulcast toast from Master of Ceremonies, Mario Andretti, a Pennsylvania native, racing legend and California winery owner, which will be broadcast to all the participating wineries in state.  The event, dreamed up by Pennsylvania Wine Association (PWA), will have to exceed the previous simultaneous tasting record of 17,540 people, set at more than 400 pubs across the UK on May 21, 2008.  At Chaddsford, the official Guinness counter will be State Representative Steve Barrar, who will also lead the countdown to the toast.  Everyone who participates in raising a glass at Chaddsford will receive a free commemorative wine glass, filled with Spring Wine.

The event, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Wine Association, will benefit The Fund to Benefit Children & Youth, whose mission is to provide abused, neglected and at-risk children with the items and services they cannot receive from traditional sources.  For this event, Chaddsford will be donating $2 from each wine tasting purchased to the Fund.

Chaddsford Winery is Pennsylvania’s premiere winery and has led the way for a burgeoning premium wine region to emerge from the hills of the Brandywine Valley, both as a producer of world-class wines and as a leader.  It is often considered a chief architect of the Pennsylvania wine industry.

Chaddsford proprietor and winemaker Eric Miller was honored by the American Wine Society with their 2009 Award of Merit, a designation that is granted to just one wine professional annually.  Chaddsford was awarded eight medals at the 2009 Pennsylvania Wine Association’s Pennsylvania Wine Competition, and their 2007 Chambourcin was named the overall winner at the Pennsylvania Wine Society’s 2009 Wine Excellence Awards.  They have earned multiple “Best of Philly” nods from Philadelphia magazine, and in 2008, Wine Enthusiast named Chaddsford Winery one of “America’s Top 25 Tasting Rooms,” to be considered for this honor, “wine quality was paramount,” but “decor, staff savvy, amenities and more ephemeral characteristics, such as overall quirkiness or warmth” were considered as well.

Throughout the year the Millers host various classes, seminars, tastings and festivals designed to give wine aficionados an up-close and personal look at the winemaking process, and to elevate their appreciation and enjoyment of wine.

Chaddsford wines are available directly from the winery, located on Route 1 in Chadds Ford, also at their Bucks County Tasting Room in Peddler’s Village, Lahaska and on their website at www.chaddsford.com.  For more information on upcoming events or the wines of Chaddsford, please call (610) 388-6221, visit Chaddsford’s website and follow them on Twitter @ChaddsfordWine.
