West Chester slaps $200 fee on restaurants seeking sidewalk cafés

WEST CHESTER — Borough Council voted to increase from $50 to $200 the amount restaurants must pay to open sidewalk cafés.

Borough officials said that revenues from the increased fees will cover the cost of enforcing the new sidewalk café regulations council enacted last month.

Specifically, the revenues will cover the cost of sending codes enforcement officers into the restaurant district on weekend nights during the spring and summer to make sure cafés aren’t taking up too much space on the sidewalk.
