Here at Dish, our love runs deep for one of a kind food trucks. While Chester County only holds a slim number of on-the-go operations, we are lucky to reside close to the city to take advantage of the alluring eats concocted from some of best street chefs.
What’s even better is that the first time ever, the annual Vendy Awards will come to Philadelphia to determine in an intense grill-to-grill cook-off who is Philadelphia’s best street vendor. The cook-off is slated to be held on July 9th from 3 to 7pm at Piazza at Schmidts and will benefit The Food Trust, a nonprofit that strives to make healthy food available to all.
Last year, three Philadelphia vendors journeyed to New York to participate in the 2010 Vendys, including Honest Tom’s Tacos, Denise’s Soul Food Restaurant and Run by Ruth Statt: Birch Run on a Roll (who happens to hold a special place in our hearts).
Nominations for vendors are being accepted now, and tickets for the Philadelphia Vendys can be bought at http://streetvendor.org/vendys/philly.
