Homegrown Hops and Mug Club Renewal Party at Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

Tomorrow, Feb. 19th, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant of Phoenixville will tap a very special cask of E.S.B. This 11 gallon “firkin” has a huge satchel of whole leaf hops hanging inside, and the hops were grown locally by their friends Andy Decker and Dan Smith.

At the peak of the hop growing season this year, Andy and Dan harvested the fresh hop cones, dried them, and vacuum sealed them for the local microbrewery. The hop variety is Cascade, but since they were grown locally in PA’s climate and soil, the hops have their own unique “cascadey” character. The cask will be tapped at 1 pm, and we all hope that you have a chance to stop by and try it!

Also, next week, Iron Hill will have a Mug Club Appreciation Party! Head brewer Tim Stumpf reveals that, in the past, this was more of a “renewal” party, but since most members don’t need to renew at this time, why not just have a reason to party?!

The event is Thursday, Feb 24th from 5-7pm, and they are releasing their newest beer creation, the “Schwarzbock.” This strong, black lager is an “Imperial” version of IHB’s GABF gold-medal-winning Schwarzbier. There will be special complimentary appetizers, and Cole Campbell will be playing live in the brewery’s cocktail area starting at 8 pm.

Any mug club member that brings in a new member (signs up this night) will receive 75 bonus points on their account. All happy hour specials are still on for this night, too, from 5 to 7 pm.
