Save Tastykake!

Here at Town Dish, we praise the locally-packaged sugar-coma-of-a-dessert (known officially as Tastykakes) so much that when we journey on our Dish Trips, we flood our luggage with boxes of the guilty pleasure goods to gift to new friends in other cities.

Last week, when we heard the news that Tasty Baking Company may merge with another company or sell, we honestly shed a few tears. How could our lives go on without Tastykakes piled on the shelves of all our local supermarkets and convenience stores?! There’s nothing like losing the favorite food of your childhood, and we couldn’t deal with not seeing Butterscotch Krimpets casually in our corner store.

Heck—we may not eat them every day for breakfast, but anytime we eye up a box of Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes, we instantly become like kids in a candy store, dying to sink our teeth into their chocolate-encased cakes.

Since Tastykake’s headquarters is located right on the Philadelphia Naval Yard, they have become an important part of our closeby city and easily, with local pride in tow, much better than any Hostess cake. So, while the notorious baking company cruises their financial hardship, show them a little love!

Tastykake may be going under, but we won’t let them!
