The Brandywine Valley Association (BVA) will host its 5th Annual Brandywine Polar Plunge on February 11, 2012 at the Brandywine Picnic Park in West Chester. The annual event is organized each year to encourage locals to get outdoors and also, to assist in raising awareness about BVA’s conservation work in the 330 square mile Brandywine Creek Watershed.
Participants of the Plunge collect at least $35 in donations from friends and family in exchange for braving the chilly Brandywine Creek in the middle of winter. The first 200 participants to register are guaranteed an official 2012 long sleeve t-shirt to commemorate the event. Team participation is encouraged. Prizes are awarded to: top individual fundraiser, largest group, group raising the most funds and best costume!
Registration begins at 10 am of Feb. 11, with the plunge jump-starting at 11:30 am. The Polar Plunge takes place at Brandywine Picnic Park, found at 690 South Creek Road in West Chester.
“With plenty of snow over the last two years, we are prepared for ideal plunge conditions this year,” says Jim Jordan, BVA’s Executive Director and veteran plunger.
Since 2008, over 750 people have taken the plunge and raised nearly $56,000 to protect and conserve our region’s natural resources. Organizers appreciate loyal community supporters and hope to grow event participation this year. Event info and registration is available at brandywinewatershed.org.
