It would be unheard of for Julia Child’s birthday to pass unnoticed in the food industry. A true cooking icon, we’re not surprised to see Le Bec-Fin and Talula’s Garden honoring Julia with special birthday menus.
Starting August 15th, diners who grab a seat at Le Bec-Fin will find they are offering a 3-course $60 prix fixe to celebrate. Guests may add a wine pairing to their meal for $25. The night begins at 6:30 p.m., with canapés and flambéed Crêpes Suzette and ends with a birthday cake. Those who are interested should call 215-567-1000 to reserve a spot during the week.
The new LeBec–Fin (1523 Walnut St.) is also participating in a week-long ode to Julia Child from August 7th to 14th, also known as Julia Child Restaurant Week. Julia Child single-handedly brought French cuisine to the average American. Chef Walter Abrams has plucked a few of her well-known recipes and styled them into a menu that will be served downstairs at Chez Georges. The line up includes:
French onion soup
Ratatouille
Lobster Americaine
Bouillabaisse
Short Ribs
Crêpes Suzette
Chocolate Rum Almond Cake
Crème Brûlée
As mentioned earlier Aimee Olexy will also be hopping on board with the Julia Child 100th anniversary festivities. To do so, Talula’s Garden will offer a special French classics menu for the week of August 13th. Executive chef Sean McPaul is putting together an 8-course meal that will run $100, and include the very best French cheeses. For an additional $60, the Talula’s team will pair each course with a French wine, all of which are of the eco-conscious variety. All reservations must be made by calling the restaurant at 215-592-7787.
We know Julia would be humbled by the appreciation she still receives today and hope you decide to celebrate the first and foremost cooking celebrity by joining these restaurants for an evening of truly desirable and delicious cuisine.
