Greener Partners Host the Mater Tater Festival, Aug. 18

Keep your eyes peeled on Saturday, August 18th for The Mater Tater Festival being held at the Longview Center for Agriculture, a project of Greener Partners, in Collegeville from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The festivities will include activities for children and families including: Spud Derby- (build and race your own spud mobile!), dig-your-own potatoes, pony hops races and a tomato toss. That’s just a few things planned. You will have to attend to see what else is in store and get in on the action.

Guests are encouraged to come hungry because they will be grilling up local grass fed burgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob all day. Scooped Ice Cream will be serving a wide assortment of gourmet ice cream, gelato & sorbet. All their ice cream is homemade. They pride themselves in using organic, hormone-free dairy, nuts and chocolate in their products. Scooped has been the winner of the prestigious “Best Of the Main Line” for the past three years in a row.

The festival will also boast an outdoor Tomato Canning Demonstration and you can become familiar with Big Dutt’s BBQHis line of sauces consists of the Spicy Original and the recently perfected Smoke Pit Sauce. Guests can taste cheese and tomatoes from local vendors as well as the market chefs of Longview.

For those who enjoy a good feud every once and a while, a Salsa and a Most Beautiful Homegrown Tomato competition will take place. All salsa recipes must be homemade and use local ingredients. You can register your tomato at www.greenerpartners.org/mater.

Admission is FREE and the event is open to the public. Greener Partners will sell tickets and accept donations for wagon rides which will take place every hour, including a guided tour where the famers will talk about the past, present and future of The Longview Center for Agriculture.

Proceeds of the Mater & Tater Festival directly benefit Greener Partners’ non-profit education programs. For more information, please visit www.greenerpartners.org or contact the market staff at 610-584-8206.
