Night Market Philadelphia Returns – This Time, Food Trucks and Food Lovers Mingle on Washington Ave.

The excitement had been building for weeks, and I was more than ready to attend my first Night Market Philadelphia. Philly’s local food bazaar features the city’s best food trucks and restaurants, along with music, martinis, wine, local craft beers. After picking up a few hungry friends, I arrived on Thursday evening in June to Washington Avenue, which was lined with tents, food trucks and happy foodies.

The smells had been tempting me from blocks away and by the time we reached this South Philly food haven, I was hungry for brats, roasted pork and ice cream all at once. Where was the tantalizing smell of bacon coming from, and why was I not eating it yet? After a stop at the Yards tent, we hurried over to Guapos Tacos, the stellar taco truck owned by renowned chef Jose Garces (pictured below: taco menu and tacos).

Undeterred by the quickly building line, we waited our turn for the delicious tacos that awaited us from the serving window. I tried the chipotle short rib taco while a friend grabbed the duck barbacoa. The meat was tender and the flavors well balanced—they were definitely worth the wait! Another highlight of the night was the Salted Caramel milkshake from the Lucky Old Souls food truck (pictured below: third from left). I love this combination, and was really smitten with the milkshake version of the classic candy.

Night Market provides a sampling of the most unique cuisine in Philly, making it a great experience for anyone. The street food festival was held in Northern Liberties in May, and will make another appearance on August 16th in Mount Airy. Find out more about Night Market Philadelphia here!
