Chestnut Hill is a Philadelphia gem. Who knew it could get even better? The retail centric town has 11,000 residents, plus constant visitors from surrounding areas who support the historic district’s shops, restaurants, and facilities. We’ve learned even more attractions are set to draw visitors down the road.
The lovely mix of old and new is what seems to make Chestnut Hill so special. Visitors for the day can have lunch at McNally’s Tavern, an age old establishment, and dinner at Iron Hill Brewery. There is a unique variety to the establishments that fills one’s stroll down Germantown Avenue with surprises and excitement. The uniqueness has been drawing new businesses for the past few years, like Hipster Home who moved from Phoenixville, and should continue to do so for quite some time.
In fact, business owners will have even more reason to inhabit a Chestnut Hill vacancy after developers of Bowman Properties break ground in 2014 across from the hotel to build a mixed use center anchored by The Fresh Grocer. The center will include townhouses and more retail space.
Other plans to develop Chestnut Hill include upgrades and new establishments from Ron and Abbey Pete who currently own and operate The Chestnut Hill Hotel and the Farmer’s Market. Restoration to the hotel’s original 1800’s exterior is expected. In addition, functional renovations to the market, which will expand from 12 to 20 vendors, are currently taking place. The Pete family will also have their hands full with plans to add a brand new restaurant next door to the hotel that will feature brick-oven pizza, charcuterie and a wide selection of wines.
