Even in this sweltering heat, non-soda lovers may be known to crave a carbonated cooler every once and a while. When they finally make the decision to cave in, a guilt free indulgence can be found at Vernick Food & Drink on Walnut Street. Welcoming soda lovers and tempted non-believers, this inviting neighborhood bistro hit the Rittehouse Square scene earlier this year and has made a big refreshing splash in doing so. Now they have another reason to be recognized.
Vernick Food & Drink serves both exceptional food and the area’s most creative and delicious drinks, including a seasonal assortment of House-Made Sodas and Mocktails featuring fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and house-steeped syrups. Cherry Hill native Greg Vernick is the Chef/Owner who honed his skills in kitchens such as New York City’s Restaurant Tocqueville, Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Jean-Georges and Kenneth Oringer’s Clio in Boston, MA.
After developing an utmost attention to detail and extensive creativity, he brought his talents to Philadelphia where guests can now enjoy his selection of house-made sodas and mocktails, which include: Fresh Ginger and Lime, ginger syrup and fresh lime juice blended with sparkling water ($5); Raspberry and Basil, muddled raspberries and raspberry puree with sparkling water served in a high ball glass rimmed with basil salt ($5); Cucumber Smash, muddled lemon and mint with cucumber water and sugar ($6); and Vernick Punch, fresh-squeezed juices with house grenadine ($6).
The house-made sodas and mocktails will change, both to complement the food menu and to capitalize on the freshest herbs and produce of the season. The idea behind the mocktails and the creation of each one is handled just as carefully as their signature cocktails, just without the alcohol. It’s a perfect refreshment for those who are un-interested in the alcohol but still a fan of unique and refreshing beverages.
Vernick Food & Drink is open Tuesday through Sunday beginning at 4:30 p.m. and serves dinner from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m., with the bar open until 1 a.m. The restaurant is closed on Monday.
