Yesterday was a day honored by many twisty, salted dough lovers. As National Pretzel Day has just passed, it seems extremely fitting that tonight, Friday, April 27, the president of Philly Pretzel Company, Danny DiZio, will appear on the television show ‘Undercover Boss’ at 8 pm.
The lively Bridge Street of Phoenixville is home to one of the many Pretzel Company branches that handed out free pretzels all day. You may be surprised to hear that the store who has been known to create some amazing pretzel art surpassed their maximum give-away last year of 70,000. However, since Pennsylvania is the center of America’s pretzel production and is responsible for 80% of a $550 million a year industry, it’s quite understandable.
Although many European nations claim they invented the pretzel, it was actually German and Swiss immigrants who introduced the pretzel to the Philadelphia area in 19th century. Thanks to their introduction, Dan DiZio was able to fall in love with loopy-looking snack and started the company with college buddy, Len Lehman, in 1998. Since then, the company has grown to encompass 100 stores along the East Coast. It’s certainly come a long way since the 19th century.
Look for the local entrepreneur on CBS tonight at 8 to find out how sneaky Dan was around his un-knowing employees. This preview may have you thinking that he broke his cover, but you’ll have to watch to find out!
