Take a Step in the Right Direction! Parkway Dash 4 Diabetes Debuts April 14

The Chester County Hospital & Health System will host Parkway Dash for Diabetes on April 14th at The Chester County Justice Center – Downtown West Chester.

The 5k Run, 2.5k Walk and Kids Fun Run were organized to raise money for The Diabetes Self Management Program at The Chester County Hospital. Both the run and walk cost $25 per person to enter and the Kid’s Fun Run is $10 per child. Children under 12 with diabetes may race for free. Runners and walkers may REGISTER online or the day of the event.

Once you’re registered, all you have to do is show up, rain or shine, with a great attitude and get ready to workout for a wonderful cause. If you weren’t pre-registered and decide to pitch in at the last minute, on-site registration will take place at 2:30 pm.  Following that, the Kid’s Run begins at 3:30 pm and the remaining two races take off at 4:00 pm.

Aside from civic duty, additional motivation to participate may lie in the raffle tickets (win a car!), event t-shirts (designedby Henderson High School Students), local celebrity appearances (Road Warriors) and awards! Overall winners for men and women from 1st to 5th place will receive a cash prize! Those coming in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd  for each age group will also get a prize and the 1st athlete to finish with diabetes will get the Kennedy Marie Canzoneri Award. Everyone is bound to be in great spirits with all the giving that’s going around.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get out with friends and family and enjoy some healthy fun. This year there is added event excitement as 5 local celebrities have agreed to be trained by local fitness centers to run or walk the Dash 4 Diabetes and have their journey videotaped and viewed on the web. ACAC Fitness and Wellness Centers,  LA Fitness of Downingtown and PottstownMitch’s Market Street GymPremier Personal TrainingSummit Fitness and the YMCA of the Brandywine Valley have trained a businessman, a computer engineer, a working mom, a young professional, and a chef to reach their goals of running/walking the Dash.

In video diaries, the participants who range in age from their 20’s to their 50’s discuss the challenges of getting started in a workout regime and dealing with a chronic illness. You can catch a glimpse of one of these video diaries HERE but it’s even better to show up on April 14 and witness the magical moment when the trainees reach their goals.

Those who are skeptical about signing up without knowing the route, can view all details about the course prior to commitment. However, if it’s not the course that’s preventing you, and rather a pre-engagement, then there are other ways for you to support the The Diabetes Self Management Program at The Chester County Hospital.

Anyone and everyone is invited to DONATE online or by mailing a check to The Chester County Hospital Foundation. Please make checks payable to May Festival/Dash and return to The Chester County Hospital Foundation, 701 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380 along with the following information: Name, Email Address, Address, Phone Number.

You may also raise money by dining out until May 1. A complete list of the participating restaurants can be viewed HERE and a printed version of THIS FLYER is needed in order to officially contribute. Lastly, a truly helpful way of raising funds when you can’t physically be there is to create your own fundraising page. You can contact friends and family directly to let them know how important this cause is. If you’re interested in doing this as the Dash for Diabetes nears, please visit ActiveGiving online or email [email protected] for assistance. These is really no way out of helping on this one. Even if you want to volunteer, e-mail [email protected].

April 14 is the perfect time to test your athletic ability, kick start a workout regime or just support an amazing cause, so lace up and join the Parkway Dash 4 Diabetes!
