The World’s Greatest Farmer Showdown Returns to Longview Center for Agriculture with Greener Partners, Nov. 4

Join Longview Center for Agriculture & Greener Partners for a unique, family-friendly event that celebrates local farmers. The second annual World’s Greatest Farmer Showdown is slated for Sunday, November 4th from noon to 4 p.m. and things might get dirty…literally.

The competition will take place on the beautiful, 120-acre Longview Center for Agriculture at 3215 Stump Hall Road, and serves as a celebration of the folks that work hard to bring you the local bounty of the season. Guests will be able to watch local farm teams vie for a $500 gift certificate to Johnny’s Select Seed and compete in contests such as the Pumpkin Shot Put, Wheel Barrow Obstacle Course, and a farmer led harvesting competition.

In addition to friendly competitions for the farmers, the day will begin with a Farm-K at 8:30 a.m., which is a fun walk for families & kids of all ages and a great way to enjoy a morning on the farm. The course will wind through the apple and peach orchards, take you past the greenhouses, through a secret trail in the woods, along the blueberry and fall production fields and back to the Longview Market where you will find fruit and muffins for enjoyment. All participants are asked to raise funds for their walk to support Greener Partners’ education programs. The real showdown, and what everyone’s gathering around for, will begin at 12 noon after the farm teams enjoy a hearty breakfast sponsored by Whole FoodsPatrons are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy the all day festivities which include an amateur chili cook-off, live music by The Whiskeyhickon Boys and specialty craft beer and locally inspired food from Victory Brewing Company.

Don’t worry about getting bored because the day will be filled with great farm based activities for adults and children alike, including kids showdown games, Lost Arts workshops and a book signing and presentation by author and expert canner, Marisa MaClellan of Food in Jars. Alpacas will also join in on the fun thanks to Little Lost Creek Alpaca Farm. 

The Longview Farm Market will be grilling up tasty local beef burgers, hotdogs and local-made veggie burgers and will also be offering farm fresh prepared items inside the market for guests to nosh their way through all day. Be sure to get out and enjoy the day and support over 20 local vendors selling crafts, prepared foods and community awareness groups. The entrance fee is just $5 per car load and all proceeds will go toward Greener Partners’ mission.
