Uptown! will hold its second Jazz at the Courthouse concert at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, November 2nd. The show will feature the Blackbird Society Orchestra of Philadelphia and will take place on the steps of the historic Chester County Courthouse at the corner of High and Market Streets in West Chester. Admission to this outdoor, weather-permitting event is FREE, so please invite your friends and neighbors.
The Blackbird Society Orchestra (BSO) is Philadelphia’s Premier 1920s Jazz Band, dedicated to preserving the music of the Roaring Twenties and the Gatsby era—the period that invented the American art form known as jazz. Working from bandleader Richard Barnes’ collection of original vintage stock charts and arrangements, BSO authentically and accurately recreates many classic jazz recordings that once spun on a Victrola’s scratchy 78 RPM records when the world was still in black and white.
The first Jazz at the Courthouse concert featured vocalist Sara Michaels and her band was a huge success! Many stopped by before or after a meal at one of the many delicious West Chester restaurants, a treat you might consider doing yourself.
November 2nd is also First Friday and Holiday Shopping Kickoff in West Chester, when most local merchants stay open late to accommodate early holiday shoppers.
Dinner. Shopping. Free jazz music. Sounds like a great evening, doesn’t it?
