Move over California—Pennsylvania wines will take it from here! Perhaps it’s viewed as a small step by some but Pennsylvanians—particularly those in the Philadelphia area—are feeling pretty awesome about their nearby options since Va La Vineyards received mention in Robert Parker’s internationally acclaimed newsletter, The Wine Advocate.
His recent article labeled “Best of 2012″ recognized Va La by saying “the highly unorthodox quintet that issues from two dozen (mostly Italianate) cépages (largely in field blends!) on six acres set just back from the main drag of tiny Avondale (northwest of Wilmington, Delaware) is worth a detour; and Vietri [wine maker] is passionate, experimental, articulate, and focused on vineyard excellence.”
