Service dogs, Cow Bingo and cupcakes. How’s that for an intriguing combo? Cochranville’s Canine Partners for Life (CPL) will have all three at its Open House on Saturday, September 7, from 12 to 4 p.m.!
Take a tour of the state-of-the-art kennel, meet CPL service dogs and puppies and enjoy demos exhibiting how these wonderful canine companions are trained to assist people with physical disabilities. You’ll also inspired by the personal stories of CPL graduates about what life is like with a service dog.
To sweeten the deal, the Dia Doce Cupcake Truck will be on hand at the event with its always-incredible baked goods. Visitors to the Open House can also shop for dog-related products and services, handmade jewelry and crafts at one of the many vendor booths. There will also be tons of giveaways and raffles.
“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” explains Darlene Sullivan, Executive Director and Founder of CPL. “It’s a fun event. We usually have a gorgeous day weather-wise and people really enjoy coming out and seeing firsthand what we do. The CPL staff is happy to explain and demonstrate how our dogs can help change the lives of individuals with disabilities. There are all kinds of activities for the entire family. The puppy kissing booth is always a huge hit. So is the free BBQ lunch.”
Now, about Cow Bingo. According to Ms. Sullivan, “CPL’s Cow Bingo has quickly become an annual tradition for many people.” Not familiar with Cow Bingo? Basically it is the game of bingo but played on a much, much larger scale than what most of us are used to. First step: divide a portion of CPL’s property into 4,000 squares. Second, release a cow onto the field (at about 3:15 p.m.). Whichever square is the one the cow chooses to “do its business on” is the winner, with the estimated value of the winning ticket at $5,000! Each square costs $10. Cow Bingo squares are available for purchase at the event and online at CPL’s website prior to the event. You do not have to be present to win.
The mission of CPL is to help people with physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities lead independent and fulfilling lives by matching them with highly skilled canine partners. Since its inception in 1989, CPL has dramatically changed the lives of hundreds of people, relying entirely on individual and corporate contributions, foundation grants and special events.
The rain or shine event will take place at Canine Partners for Life’s facility at 334 Faggs Manor Road in Cochranville. Learn more and see a schedule of the day’s events on CPL’s website, here, and be sure to follow the organization on Facebook and Twitter!
