Fun with Fermentation: Pickles & Sauces
When: Thursday, September 19, 6 to 8 p.m.

Calling all condiment lovers! Learn how to ferment your own crunchy, flavor-packed pickles and make your own hot sauce in this class taught by Amanda Feifer of Phickle.com. The recipes will feature local ingredients and Asian-inspired flavors, and you’ll leave with the skills and knowledge you need to start a variety of your own fermentation projects. Everyone will make a jar of pickles and a jar of hot sauce to ferment at home. Seasonal snacks (including Fair Food Philadelphia’s take on Vietnamese banh mi featuring kosher, organic, vegan tofu from Fresh Tofu and the recipes that will be made in the class) and generously donated Victory Brewing Company beer will be served.
Canning Crash Course: Fall Fruit Chutneys with Food in Jars
When: Tuesday, October 29, 6 to 8 p.m.

Spice up your pantry with this class on seasonal fruit chutney with Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars! Learn how to choose local produce, how to spice your recipe and the basics of water bath canning so you can have your own flavor-packed chutneys all year round. the workshop will also feature some pairings of local cheeses and samples of other chutney recipes from Marisa’s renowned blog and cookbook—great info for the upcoming holiday entertaining season! Attendees will take home a jar of their very own chutney and all the knowledge they need to can these delicious recipes at home.Light refreshments will be served along with generously donated beer from Victory Brewing Company.
Canning Crash Course: Holiday Gift Giving with Food in Jars
When: Monday, November 18, 6 to 8 p.m.

Nothing says love like a homemade gift. Learn to put up your own local, seasonal preserves with blogger, author and instructor extroardinaire Marisa McClellan of Food in Jars! You’ll learn the basics of water bath canning plus a recipe for seasonal preserves that would make the perfect present for that special someone or hostess gift at the next holiday party you attend. Attendees will take home a jar of Cranberry Jam (made with local, no-spray cranberries) and the knowledge to do their own canning all year round. Light refreshments will be served along with generously donated beer from Victory Brewing Company.
