Learn what it was like to be a “thirsty” Philadelphian trying to score a drink during Prohibition by taking the Prohibition Cocktail Tour! Offered by City Food Tours, this two-hour jaunt takes visitors to three Philly hotspots to enjoy a generous sample of an under-the-radar period cocktail, each selected for its authenticity and rarity in today’s bar scene. Two of the locations will also have light appetizers.
Stops include Time Restaurant, where participants will enjoy Whiskey Punch, and Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, where the featured cocktail will be Al Capone’s drink of choice, The Southside. Enjoy a New Orleans Buck Fizz at the final stop, an undisclosed location. One of Philadelphia’s most popular re-creations of a speakeasy, this spot is so dedicated to offering an authentic experience that it has no website or published phone number. The suspense is killing us!
Along the way, City Food Tours will share stories and images of the day and point out Philadelphia’s 1920s architecture, including one of the city’s best examples of Art Deco.
Please note: The Prohibition Cocktail Tour is great for foodies, couples, groups of friends, locals and their out-of-town guests, but it’s not designed for anyone under the age of 21 and is not recommended for those who may be uncomfortable with the discussion of sex and illegal activity in a historical context.
Visit City Food Tours’ website for more information and to book your tour, and stay tuned for details about a ’60s-themed cocktail crawl coming soon.
