What’s all this Brotherly Love stuff? Philadelphia is also a city of women, and on May 4 Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) Philadelphia will be celebrating women with an extravagant culinary show, CUISINE, CULTURE & COMMUNITY: A Global Celebration Of Women & Food. Care to join?
LDEI is a talented and philanthropic group of chefs, restaurateurs, cookbook authors, bloggers, TV and radio personalities, wine and spirits specialists, educators, nutritionists and farmers. Their all day May 4th event is unfolding from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to benefit Green Tables and LDEI’s Scholarship programs.
Attendees of the unique and exciting event will have the opportunity to meet renowned cookbook author and TV personality Nathalie Dupree, who will serve as keynote speaker and sign copies of her new book, Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking.
In addition, this year’s presenters include flavor expert, Marcie Pelchat (Monell Chemical Senses Center), beer and chocolate maven Sebbie Buhler (Rogue Ale), Chef Tia McDonald (The Vetri Foundation), co-presenter of Breaking the Color Barrier in the Kitchen; Georges Perrier and Charlotte Calmels (Bibou), panelists for Women and Their Role in the French Kitchen; and Chef Marta Quintana, who will teach a hands-on Cuban cooking class.
Nothing was left out in 2013. Even a gluten free/vegan baking demonstration is on the agenda, served up with a special appearance by Jason Roberts from The Chew. Plus, event chair Aliza Green, one of Philly’s foremost female culinarians, will be signing her latest tome, Making Artisan Pasta, recently named Cooking Light’s Top 100 Cookbooks of the Last 25 Years, and demonstrating how to prepare hand-stretched pasta. Urban gardening and mixology with Katie Loeb are also on the program.
