Get your taco and margarita fix starting Tuesday, April 9, at Mt. Airy’s Avenida! The restaurant is debuting its Taco Tuesday menu, featuring three tacos and three sides for just $20 per person (plus tax and gratuity). Fresh margaritas, $5 each, will be served in six fruit flavors—mango, passion fruit, prickly pear, watermelon, peach and blood orange.
“Taco Tuesdays are a tradition for one simple reason—they’re a fun excuse to get a group together and eat some delicious, affordable Latin American food,” says Guatemala-born Chef-owner Edgar Alvarez, who grew up eating churrasco and other grilled meats on tortillas and is now bringing that tradition to Avenida, which he opened with wife Kim Alvarez in 2009. “This meal is a treat for everyone who wants to enjoy an inexpensive night out—especially with a fresh fruit margarita thrown into the mix!”
Taco Tuesday includes a choice of any three tacos, such as pan-seared pentado (Brazilian Tigerfish) with shredded fried tortillas, iceberg lettuce and romesco sauce; grilled lamb sausage with pico de gallo; black bean and soy chorizo with escabeche; and pollo a la parrilla, grilled chicken with creamy roasted pepper-garlic sauce and cilantro leaves. Guests’ choice of three sides will include baked black beans with cloves and bacon lardons; trio frito, yukon gold, sweet potato and yucca fries; creamy cabbage and watercress with dulce de leche chipotle vinaigrette; and fried zucchini “noodles” with jalapeños, onions and tomatillo sauce.
The new Taco Tuesday menu is available both in Avenida’s main dining room and in their adjacent outdoor dining area, a 30-seat flagstone patio that has the laid-back, festive feel of a cantina tucked into a hidden garden. The patio will be open, weather permitting, throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Avenida is located at 7402 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia; for more information or to make a reservation, call (267) 385-6857.
