Top 4 Reasons to Visit Weaver’s Orchard in September—the Sooner, the Better!

We know you may be sad to see summer go … but we’re here to tell you that fall is one of the most delicious times of the year, especially when you head to Weaver’s Orchard. Right now is a perfect time to get into the swing of autumn with a trip to the orchard’s gorgeous location in Morgantown. Here’s why:

Apples Available Now!

Weaver's Orchard Apples 2

Weaver’s Orchard is the place to go for a wide assortment of apple varieties. Make a trip to pick your own and enjoy early season smaller crowds and this weekend’s expected cooler temperatures. Pick-your-own apples are already available, with Gala and Ginger Gold open now. Honey Crisp and Golden Supreme are expected to open tomorrow! Macintosh and Autumn Crisp are expected to be available around September 7. Plan to pick-your-own Jonathan, Early Fuji, Empire, Cortland and Crimson Crisp apples toward mid-September. Jonagold, Macoun, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious will come in late September. Get all the info on pick-your-own availability on the Weaver’s Orchard website.

Fresh-Pressed Cider & Cider Donuts

Weavers Apple Cider

Is there a more perfect taste of fall than apple cider and apple cider donuts? (The answer: no.) The first of Weaver’s fresh-pressed cider (pressed just yesterday!), is now available, as are the very first cider donuts of the season. Weaver’s preservative-free apple cider is renowned for its fresher-than-fresh taste. The cider has won awards at the Mid-Atlantic Apple Cider Contest for years versus the best ciders from Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. The secret is a blend of at least five varieties of Weaver’s own apples to create that perfect slightly sweet, slightly tart balance. Cider is pressed on site from September to May—it doesn’t get any more fresh than that. The Weaver’s Orchard website has all the details on its cider-making process. Hot tip: cider donuts make the perfect breakfast!

Meet Johnny Appleseed

Celebrate everything apple at Weaver’s annual Johnny Appleseed Day, always the Saturday after Labor Day (in 2016, the date is September 10). The day-long event is fun, educational and free. Bring the whole family for hayrides to the apple orchard, pick-your-own apples and storytelling with the man himself, Johnny Appleseed. Guests can also visit the animals at the farmyard play area. Come hungry and plan to dig into plenty of apple treats, including caramel apples, baked apple desserts and (of course) apple cider!

In the mood to just slice and eat your fresh, crisp Weaver’s apples? Try this recipe for PA Dutch Apple Dip. (Note: the recipe mentions Pink Lady apples, which aren’t available until late in the season, but the dip works for any apple you prefer!)

You can also pick up or order a copy of the 2nd edition of Savoring the Season’s at Weaver’s Orchard, a cookbook jam-packed with Weaver’s favorite in-season recipes, including two chapters about apples (“Breakfast and Savory” and “Desserts”) as well as a chapter with apple cider recipes.
