Save the Date: World Night Market in Lancaster City (June 10)

Originally set for the evening of Friday, May 18, but rescheduled due to weather, the World Night Market will now be held on Sunday, June 10, from 1–5 p.m., at Binns Park, located at 120 North Queen Street in Lancaster City. This popular Lancaster event is all due to the efforts of the Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA), in collaboration with the City of Lancaster, Music Friday and Music for Everyone.

The community is invited to gather together and experience a bustling marketplace atmosphere, inspired by the energetic marketplaces of Asia, and learn more about the cultures of other countries while enjoying a fun family friendly afternoon out in Lancaster.

This international block party was designed to promote MEDA’s important mission as a nonprofit committed to creating business solutions to poverty around the world. The event will feature music, culture, arts and food from across the globe. The free-admission event offers the perfect opportunity for the Lancaster community to come out to Binns Park for cultural shopping, food and entertainment.

This year’s World Night Market will feature six countries, including Ethiopia, Libya, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Tanzania and Ukraine. The event will include over 14 local food vendors, a multi-cultural fashion show by Lush Bazaar and Nicole Taylor Boutique, a variety of activities for children and a full music line-up. Event-goers can peruse the various vendor tents, purchase unique products from other countries, nosh on creative cultural fare and spend the day with the family taking in cultures from abroad.

World Night Market food vendors will include the following:

As for product vendors, Ten Thousand Villages and Lush Bazaar will be selling their lovely products to the Market visitors throughout the event. Other activities will include a Gallimotto Obstacle Course, face painting and henna art for the kids, plus live music from MU STEEL, Los Bomberos de la Calle, Imani Edu-Tainers African Dance Company and The PA Mambo Orquesta.

“One of last year’s World Night Market participants described the amazing spirit of this event as one that ‘fed the soul hunger of good people in a challenging world.’ MEDA is pleased to be part of such a positive and collaborative initiative in Lancaster. This spirit reflects the respectful approach we take in our international projects,” says Ruth Leaman a senior development officer at MEDA. “Our vision is that all people can unleash their potential to create a more sustainable, peaceful and prosperous world.”

Save the date of June 10 for this unforgettable event where you’ll learn about different cultures, acquire some unique handmade items and indulge in culinary bites from across the world!
