On Tap – Leffe Blonde at Four Dogs Tavern

On Tap is a regular column featuring our recommendations on the most unique new draft beer offerings from local pubs.

Our Recommendation: Leffe Blonde

Where: Four Dogs Tavern,  Marshallton, PA

On Tuesday night, I stopped by Four Dogs Tavern to see what they had on tap. When I asked Sommer Martin what was unique, she told me the Leffe Blonde, a Belgian pale ale, has been her summer favorite.

Sommer explained, “a friend had nannied in Belgium and told us about this beer when she returned.” The staff at Four Dogs inquired about trying the ale, put it on tap and has been carrying it all summer.

Bartender Jim Lucyk described Leffe Blonde as “sweet and light.” Sommer commented that the beer “is a little stronger, so it will catch up with you.” Leffe Blonde comes in at 6.6% ABV.

Four Dogs Tavern touts Leffe Blonde as “smooth, crisp, refreshing.” My beer was served in a goblet. It’s light in color and was smooth and fruity with a hint of citrus at the end. Definitely a nice summer beer. Leffe Blond is the best-selling beer of the Leffe Brewing Company in Belgium. Historical records first reference the Leffe monks brewing ale in 1240, and though this is still considered an “Abbey ale,” Blonde Leffe Blonde is brewed in large batches and widely distributed.

Lucyk expects to have Leffe Blonde on tap for the next two weeks, but they are preparing to launch their fall beers, including Dogfish Head’s Pumpkin Ale, soon.
