I just dropped by Sprazzo for coffee and email-checking, and I met a nice guy named Eric who was filling a bunch of sample cups with some of Sprazzo’s delicious baked goods, which he’ll be giving out along Gay St. this afternoon (I’ll bet they won’t last long).
We got to talking, and in his cool French accent, Eric gave me the scoop on a new event called “Open Talk Night”…
What: Open Talk Night
When: Every Wednesday, from 7pm to 10pm
Where: Sprazzo Cafe (at the corner of Gay St. and High St.) in the second-floor seating area.
Aparently, it’s a fairly common occurrence in Europe, where friends and strangers of all ages gather in a bar or cafe (Sprazzo is BYOB) and pass a mic around, talking about anything they’re thinking about or interested in… life, love, politics, society, philosophy, parenthood, studenthood, etc.
Eric said that he thinks of it as a way of keeping yourself thinking and engaged when you leave college and move into the sometimes-monotonous working world, but he emphasized that there’s no pressure to be a guru. It’s meant to be casual and fun. The format is totally open — you don’t have to stand up or go to the stage to talk — and it can be as light-hearted or serious as the crowd that night.
Anyway, it sounds interesting — if any of you get to check it out, let me know what you think. And remember to BYOB!
