Bakeries nationwide find a way to make life a little sweeter for children and their families

Thornbury Bakehouse has teamed up with CancerCare for Kids.  From October 20th through the 26th, a portion of the proceeds from cupcakes sold will be donated to CancerCare.  Please read the attached document for more information and then stop into the Bakehouse or give us a call with your order.  What a great way to treat yourself along with making a donation to this worthy cause!!

From October 20 – 26, 2008, THORNBURY BAKEHOUSE and other leading bakeries from across the country will team up with parents and kids for the fifth annual Cupcakes for a Cause™, supporting children affected by cancer.

Participating bakeries in the week-long event will sell specially decorated cupcakes and donate a portion of the proceeds from their sale to CancerCare for Kids®, a program that provides free, professional counseling and support services to children affected by cancer.  A complete list of participating bakeries in the Philadelphia area and nationwide can be found at www.cupcakesforacause.org.

Each cupcake sold through the Cupcakes for a Cause campaign bears a version of the smiling-face logo of the CancerCare for Kids program. Last year’s event raised more than $60,000 for the program.

“Cupcakes for a Cause is a great way to do something fun with your family while helping children affected by this devastating disease,” said Diane Blum, executive director of CancerCare. “Children diagnosed with cancer, and those who have a parent or sibling with cancer, face very difficult emotional questions and concerns that most kids their age don’t have. Our oncology-trained social workers help children understand cancer, talk about their feelings and become less afraid of the disease.”
