The American Cancer Society Relay for Life has been a tradition in Phoenixville since 2004. While some aspects of this tradition have recently changed, the Relay will be returning to Phoenixville on the weekend of May 14-15, 2011 at Valley Forge Christian College. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. Saturday through 10:00 a.m. Sunday. Information on the Relay can be found at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=31285 .
The theme for the 2011 Relay is birthdays, to acknowledge the American Cancer Society’s commitment to creating a world with more birthdays in which cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone’s life.
Preparations are already being made for the 2011 Relay and you can be involved. Here are some upcoming Relay-related events. Remember: By supporting and participating in the Relay and Relay-related events, such as the Bark For Life, you help the American Cancer Society save lives, and that helps us move closer to our ultimate goal of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
Kick-Off For Relay For Life 2011:
The Kick–Off for the 2011 Relay for Life will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 14th, from 6:00-9p.m. at Petrucci’s Ice Cream-Water Ice on 472 Nutt Road. All are welcomed to drop in and celebrate the start of another great Relay year for Phoenixville and learn about the new improvements for 2011. Team registration will be available for half of the normal price at only $5 a person at the Kick-Off event, so this will be a great night to get your team started. Teams can be made up of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, church members and, really any combination of people at all.
All 2011 registered relay teams are welcomed to fundraise at the event with any non-food items. Local musician John Valerio will be sharing his talents with us from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and Petrucci’s will be donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to Relay!
Third Annual Bark For Life Event:
Believe it or not, your dog wants to join the fight against cancer! The American Cancer Society Bark For LifeTM is the perfect opportunity for your canine to help, a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. This year’s Bark for Life happens from Noon-3:00 p.m. at Reeves Park in Phoenixville.
So bring your best canine friend and join us for a fun-filled day starting with a walk, and then continuing with contests, and games.
If you would like to participate, sign up on our Bark For Life Website, by clicking the link on the left navigation bar of this website or fill out a Registration Form and mail it in. Save money by signing up in advance for only $10. At the event, registration will cost $15.
Nominate an Honorary Survivor for the Phoenixville event:
Do you know a survivor from our community who would like to get involved with Relay? Cancer Survivors are our inspiration and the reason we walk. Every year, we ask for one or a couple of local survivors to share their story and remind us all of our Relay purpose. We typically ask that the survivor speak at our annual Survivor Dinner in April and at our Event in May. If you know anyone who is interested contact us at 610-692-9831 ext.107 or at [email protected].
Throughout the next year, there will be many chances to participate in Relay-related fundraisers and events. You can keep track of them by consulting the Calendar of Events on the left navigation bar of the Relay website.
